MedusaPOS

At the till

Set up a till, take a sale, scan, discount and print the receipt.

Set up this till

On first sign-in, MedusaPOS resolves your store's region, tax and sales channel from Medusa. With more than one region or publishable API key, you pick them on Set up this till. Your choice is remembered for this store.

The till's country follows its stock location's country, so you don't choose it. If your chosen region doesn't cover that country, the till says so and lets you choose another.

Prices are Medusa's calculated prices for the chosen region, including sale prices. Products your sales channel doesn't sell are hidden.

Take a sale

  1. Open your register, then scan a barcode or search for a product. Add items and check the quantities.
  2. Choose Cash or Card terminal. For a card sale, take the payment on your separate terminal; the POS records that external payment.
  3. Tap Complete sale, then view the receipt and print it if needed.
  4. Tap New sale to start the next one.

Scan a barcode

A USB or Bluetooth scanner set to type like a keyboard works on Products, where the search box takes the code as if typed, and in the phone cart view. An unknown code shows No product matches "…" without adding anything. Typing into a discount box is never read as a scan.

In Settings → Scanner, set this till's minimum characters and average time per key. Raise the time for slow Bluetooth scanners. Test scan here shows the last scan's average and whether it would count. The minimum also applies to the Products search box: shorter text followed by Enter stays a search. Camera scanning isn't available yet.

Apply a discount

Use a line's Discount action, or Order discount below the lines. Choose Percent or Amount, enter the value and tap Apply. Remove a discount by tapping its chip (the ✕).

Each chip shows what actually came off, for example "10% −€0.40", "−€0.40" or "Order discount −€0.50". MedusaPOS refuses a discount that takes more off than the line or order is worth.

Read the receipt

Each line shows quantity × unit price before any discount, with its own discount underneath. An order discount row follows, then Subtotal, Discount, VAT (or incl. VAT for tax-inclusive prices) and Total.

For 2 of a €2.00 product, with 10% off the line and €0.50 off the order:

Receipt lineAmount
2 × €2.00€4.00
10% off−€0.40
Order discount−€0.50
Subtotal€4.00
Discount−€0.90
VAT 25%€0.78
Total€3.88

Subtotal is every line before its own discount. Discount is every discount together. VAT is worked out on what's left after discounts. Total is Subtotal − Discount + VAT, or Subtotal − Discount if prices already include tax.

Use a phone

Below 600 px wide, the till uses one full-height view. Products has a cart bar pinned to the bottom, such as Cart · 2 items €5.00 ›. Tap it to open the cart. Adding a product keeps you on Products.

The cart has ‹ Products at the top. Its totals and Cash / Card terminal buttons stay in view.

In the live demo and the next release

These features are in the live demo, but not in the current release, 0.1.0. The next release is not published yet.

Split payment

Choose Cash, then Split payment. Pick card terminal or cash for each part, enter its amount and add it. The summary shows Paid, Remaining and, once cash covers the rest, Change.

Change comes from the cash part only. A card part is capped at the balance due. Removing a part restores the balance. Complete the sale; the receipt lists the card terminal amount, cash tendered and change. The Medusa order records both payments.

Customers

Tap Customer: Guest, search in Search customers and pick one. Or tap New customer, enter first name, last name and email, then Save Customer. Searching and creating need a connection.

The button shows the customer's name, and the completed sale shows Customer: <name>. Removing the customer returns the sale to Guest. The Medusa order is linked to that customer.

Parked sales

Open Parked sales to park the current sale and ring up the next one. Resume it from Parked sales (1), or discard it. A resumed sale picks up today's catalogue prices.

Line price edit

Tap a line's Price, enter the new unit price and an optional reason, and apply. The order reaches Medusa at the price you charged.
